During a breakup, the last thing on your mind is how you would consider reuniting with your ex. But once the blur of emotions has subsided and you are left alone, you may realise that you are not happy with the situation you have found yourself in. If this sounds familiar, here are a few words of advice to set you forwards on the track towards a reconciliation.
1. Stay strong.
It is natural to feel like your emotions are running riot when you have lost your loved one, but proving this to your ex is not going to bring her back into your life. Resist the urge to reveal all your vulnerabilities to your ex, and instead keep strong. She may not want someone she finds demanding or intimidating, but she doesn't want a pushover either.
2. Keep the faith.
Don't rely on flowers and expensive gifts to win back your ex girlfriend. They will have no effect if it isn't you she wants. Trust that the things about you that she fell in love with are the things that will pull her back to you. She will see through an elaborate show of bravado or lavish gifts, and they will not move her if you are not being yourself - so be genuine.
3. Don't play mind games.
Using jealousy is a childish attempt at getting your ex's attention. If she knows you well enough, she will see through it and, even worse, she won't appreciate you playing with her feelings to try and win her back. And if she does believe the rumours you are trying to create about you and other girls, she may simply feel you never cared for her in the first place and move on. Either why, the situation will end in disaster.
4. Get to the bottom of it.
If it was a long-term relationship, accept that things are bound to have changed from when you first met. Think carefully about your recent arguments, problems and disagreements, and you may uncover things your girl has become unhappy about. Try to establish the things she finds most attractive in you and work on enhancing them.
5. Leave her alone.
Stalking your ex is neither effective nor attractive. You need to respect that your ex will realise her feelings in her own time, and badgering her to make a choice, or acting overtly jealous is only going to aggravate the situation. Allow her the time to miss you.
6. Leave it to the professionals.
Men might laugh at the thought of getting professional help, but resisting guidance out of pride is only detrimental to yourself. Consider that words of advice from someone more experienced may work to your advantage.
7. Apologise - sincerely.
If your breakup is predominantly a result of something you did, you need to own up to it and show remorse for your actions. If your ex can see you are mature enough to take responsibility for wrong behaviour, she may believe you are mature enough to not repeat the same mistake.
Tackling your breakup with care is your best bet at reconnecting with your ex. This time will ultimately prove whether or not your ex and you are meant to be together or not, but there is a good chance that your thoughtful approach will most probably bring about positive results.
